“Art & DT is a place for children to learn to trust their ideas, themselves and to explore what is impossible.”

Intent
At Northfields, our curriculum has been designed to encourage children to see themselves as artists by exploring new techniques to promote their own creativity, confidence and their sense of self. Our lessons promote the discovery of high-quality vocabulary, a wide range of skills/techniques and artists which will inspire children to develop their love of art. This will, in turn, provide access to ambitious career prospects opportunities in the future such as architects. The units within our curriculum have been developed so that children are able to build upon their previous learning to produce high quality outcomes and have opportunities to experiment, develop or create unique pieces of artwork which reflect a part of themselves as individual artists. At the end of each unit, children would have produced pieces of work incorporating their new learnt skills and techniques.
At NSN, we aim to offer opportunities for children to:
– Understand and enjoy art, craft and design
– Experience a broad and balanced range of art activities and show progression within these experiences
– Develop their ability to observe, investigate, respond to and record the world around them through a growing variety of forms and media
– Develop the use of a range of tools, media and processes
