Outdoor Learning

At Northfield St Nicholas Primary Academy outdoor learning is an important part of every child’s learning experience.

Our vision is for the outside learning environment to be used to enhance and add to the schools broad and balanced curriculum from EYFS to Year 6. This should be inspired from the schools ASUPERHERO curriculum which promotes teaching and learning that is engaging, varied and memorable.

Outside learning will enable all children to experience a broad and balanced approach to learning, creating experiences that cannot be taught inside of the classroom, that deliver maximum impact and that are memorable to pupils.

Our ASUPERHERO curriculum will reflect and promote outdoor learning opportunities by

Aspiration- To aspire to gain an understanding and love of the world around them

Sensory- To be immersed in awe and wonder moments in the outside world, making memorable experiences

Unforgettable- To be able to articulate learning outside of the classroom

Progress- Outside learning will build upon all other learning

Exciting and engaging- To provide hands on, real-life experiences that create and foster a love of learning in the outside world

Relevant- Relatable and relevant to the children’s developing knowledge

Hope- To provide children with aspiration and development of cultural capital

Emotional Literacy- Links to Power of Reading texts

Reading- Development of language and vocabulary

Opportunity- Inclusive learning for all children and responsive to all the different needs.
